| Detailed Description | 7:43 PM EDT Monday 24 June 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Sioux Lookout - Eastern Lac Seul At 6:42 PM CDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts and up to toonie size hail. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Watches 4:35 PM EDT Monday 24 June 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Sioux Lookout - Eastern Lac Seul Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and damaging hail. Hazards: Wind gusts up to 90 km/h. Nickel to golf ball size hail. Timing: Late this afternoon into this evening. Discussion: Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms later this afternoon, with wind and large hail being the most likely hazards. If thunderstorms develop they may persist into the overnight as they move east. Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.
