3:45 AM CDT Friday 31 May 2024 Freezing Rain Warning in effect for: Rankin Region including Whale Cove Periodic bouts of freezing rain to begin this morning in Rankin and Chesterfield Inlets. A band of freezing rain will develop and station itself over the region beginning Friday morning. The freezing rain in Rankin Inlet could last for most of the morning before switching over to rain Friday afternoon. Periods of rain will continue until Friday evening when the freezing rain could redevelop over the community and persist until Saturday morning. In Chesterfield Inlet, freezing rain may persist for most of the day once it begins later this morning. The freezing rain could continue into the early evening hours on Friday before switching to snow later Friday night. Utility outages may occur. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
