| Detailed Description | 6:36 PM EDT Wednesday 4 September 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Fort Hope - Lansdowne House - Ogoki At 6:35 PM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to toonie size hail and heavy rain. This line of severe thunderstorms is located from 30 kilometres northwest of Missisa Lake to 30 kilometres east of Beteau Lake, moving east at 90 km/h. Hazard: Toonie size hail and 100 km/h wind gusts. Locations impacted include: Streatfeild Lake, Napken Lake, Kapiskau Lake and Missisa Lake. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Hazards: Wind gusts up to 90 km/h. Up to toonie size hail. Heavy downpours. Timing: Through this evening. Discussion: Severe thunderstorms are expected to continue through this evening. The main threats with these thunderstorms are strong wind gusts and up to toonie size hail. Heavy downpours are also possible with these storms. Large hail can damage property and cause injury.
