| Detailed Description | 9:45 PM EDT Wednesday 5 June 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: West Nipissing - French River At 9:44 PM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain. This line of severe thunderstorms is located from 11 kilometres southeast of Solace Provincial Park to Horseshoe Lake, moving northeast at 40 km/h. Hazard: Rainfall amounts of 50 mm. Locations impacted include: West Nipissing, Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Provincial Park, Sturgeon River Provincial Park, Obabika River Provincial Park, Keewaydin, Temagami River Provincial Park, Dunchurch, Restoule Provincial Park, Restoule, South Bay Provincial Park, Mikisew Provincial Park, Burk''s Falls, Wawiashkashi Lake, Glen Afton, Obabika Lake, Manitou Lake, Brightwater Lake, Willow Island Lake, Diamond Lake and Notre Dame du Lac. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Fast-moving water across a road can sweep a vehicle away. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Watches 4:14 PM EDT Wednesday 5 June 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: West Nipissing - French River Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain. Timing: This afternoon and early this evening. Hazards: Wind gusts up to 90 km/h. Heavy downpours. Discussion: Scattered thunderstorms are expected to move into the region this afternoon and continue into the early evening as a cold front pushes through. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Water-related activities may be unsafe due to violent and sudden gusts of wind over bodies of water. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! If you hear thunder, then lightning is close enough to be dangerous. Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
