Maximum daytime temperatures of near 30 degrees Celsius are expected, with humidex values approaching 37. At this time, a cooler and less humid airmass is expected to arrive tonight. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues. Watches 2:36 PM EDT Saturday 27 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Pickle Lake - Cat Lake Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, damaging hail and heavy rain. Hazards: Strong wind gusts up to 90 km/h. Toonie sized hail. Timing: This afternoon into this evening. Discussion: Thunderstorms developing this afternoon may become severe. Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
